Currently on – “Escultura” by Shintaro Nakaoka, from 22nd of September until 18th of October
The Japanese award-winning artist, Shintaro Nakaoka, was born in 1957, graduated in Sculpture from the Tama Art University, held many individual and collective exhibitions and is represented in more than 30 private collections.
His unique and unparalleled pieces are now displaying in São Mamede Art Gallery. An still anthropomorphic thematic with traces of his famous torsos and the always present samurai, but in this exhibition, the artist presents also family themes, exploring different sizes of families.
The artist developed an outstanding technique on granite, the main material, using stripes to give texture, movement and complexity to the pieces. Besides the granite you can also identify, marble, that gives a fantastic contrast, not only because of the colour, but also through the roughness of the granite with the polished texture of marble.
