Helena de Almeida is possibly one of the best portuguese artists of all time, and definitely is one of the best living artists. Born in 1934, in Lisbon, Serralves now explores the work of a lifetime, and gives us the chance to visit a truly unique exhibition.
Helena Almeida explored many mediums and this exhibition shows a little bit of all that she did. However the main focus of the exhibition is the focal point of Helena Almeida’s work – the body.
Her work always surrounded her own body, making it central and calling it the work itself. Besides the most iconic “inhabited” paintings and the Photography that made her famous, there will be paintings from all of her career, including some of her initial abstract work – which can also be found here at São Mamede.
This is truly a unique chance to see the work of a lifetime of a living artist.
The exhibition opened on october 17 and will be on until January 10th.
