After it’s opening this past Saturday the new Museu Nacional dos Coches has been on the top of the news! After years of construction it is still not completely ready. There are, however, already lines of people excited to visit the amazing space that houses one of the biggest collection of carriages in the world.
This project was without a doubt an expensive one. It was also a very big project at every other level. Nevertheless it was such an amazing undertaking and the end result – even without being completely finished is groundbreaking and beautiful. The building was projected by award winning architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha and is meant to be a public space, where everyone can enjoy their time in.
The collection needs no description. It is the same as it was before, but now with more pieces being shown and also with enough space for you to walk around them.
For the skeptics about the modern architecture – worry not – the former space, that is also undoubtedly beautiful, – is still part of the museum and open for public viewing. But before you decide against the new space – go and see it in real life – and then come back and tell us what you thought.
